The program of training

We follow a structured problem-solving process during this session to highlight the importance of accurately defining and analysing a problem, enabling identification of causes and appropriate solutions.

It will help you be more confident in your decision making, and when you are looking for stakeholder support.

We use a case study throughout the session to illustrate the progressive steps of the process, including a range of supporting tools and techniques.

  • Identify the 5 steps of the problem solving process and its importance
03. Define the Problem
  • Recognise the importance of defining the problem
  • Explore how brainstorming, writing problem statements, writing ‘desired state’ statements, and well-planned meetings support this first step
04. Analyse the Problem
  • Recognise the importance of identifying the root cause of the problem
  • Explore how brainstorming, Fishbone diagrams, data gathering, and the ‘5 Why’s’ support this second step
05. Select the Solution
  • Recognise the importance of deciding upon the solution to the problem
  • Explore how brainstorming, Ideas Funnel, Force Field analysis, Criteria Rating, and Weighted Voting support this third step
06. Implementation
  • Recognise the importance of implementing the solution and following plan
  • Explore how gathering data, Process Flowcharts, and Gantt Charts support this fourth step
07. Evaluation
  • Identify the important questions to make sure the implemented solution is working
