Rethinking change by co-creating a universal capability blueprint with a global leader in process engineering

Case Study | #engineering

Context & challenges

A global leader in industrial process engineering partnered with us to supercharge their change maturity and equip the whole business with the skills needed to handle rapid global evolution. As the organization continued to grow, the company recognized the need to equip its workforce with the skills and confidence to navigate change effectively.

The discovery phase presented the perfect complex puzzle. To build an effective change strategy, the team needed to capture diverse perspectives from across the organization while moving at a pace that matched the business’s ambitions. The challenge lay in identifying a representative cross-section of voices that could provide meaningful insights without slowing momentum.

Solution

To tackle the challenge at hand, our consultation and discovery methodology required two things:

  1. A focused and agile approach, moving quickly from insight to action.
  2. A human-centred discovery process that prioritized employee and leader experiences, creating solutions shaped by people, not theory.

We conducted four focus groups alongside key 1:1 interviews, carefully curating a mix of HR professionals, L&D experts, and business leaders spanning ten countries across the globe. We also held two pivotal design workshops at their global headquarters.

To beat the decision-making crunch, we listened to the pulse of the business and honed in on what employees actually craved: human-centric capabilities like emotional intelligence, resilience, and adaptability.

We synthesized everything into a scalable three-level strategy:

Level 1

Personal Skills

Building individual resilience, adaptability, and personal skills for everyone in the business.

Level 2

Change Leadership Skills

Equipping managers and leaders within the business to guide their teams through uncertainty.

Level 3

Driving Change

Developing the right skills to manage, communicate, and drive successful change.

Our collaboration didn’t just produce a theoretical roadmap; it created an actionable blueprint for building change capability across their entire organization. By engaging four key senior leaders in interviews and rallying over twenty HR professionals from ten countries, we successfully navigated the discovery phase and have mapped out a definitive, human-centric change architecture.

With a strong foundation now in place, the company has a clear and scalable approach to developing change capability at every level of the business. More than a strategy, it provides the confidence, clarity, and direction needed to navigate future transformation, empowering people across the organization to not only adapt to change but to lead it.

As our global partnership expands, this model is already delivering rapid impact. When a senior leadership team at a regional entity needed support navigating change during an offsite, we moved from initial conversation to workshop delivery in under a month. Tailoring content from our Change Portfolio into a focused 4-hour session — covering the VUCA environment, the emotions of change, communication, and coaching — we equipped US leaders with a clear plan and the confidence to actively guide their ongoing transitions.

As the programme moves into stage two, we are excited to continue this transformation journey!
